Icarus

I browsed through dozens of shawl patterns and finally picked Icarus (By Miriam Felton) because it seemed both simple and decorative at the same time. I was also imagining the shawl worn as a scarf, folded around one's neck and the straight eyelet lines are going to line up very prettily then, too.

I used about 600 yards of Zephyr silk-wool laceweight. The colour is off-white but not quite as creamy as in this photo. The 600 yards wasn't enough for the shawl as written, so I made only 3 of the central repeats. (The pattern had clear instructions on how to adjust sizes.) And it still became pretty large, covering my back almost entirely when trying on.

So, there it is. It was a while since I last finished a lace project and the blocking efect is one of my favourite things in knitting. Not only because of the way it lays out the pattern but also because it makes the drape of the lace a bit different. Airy and dreamy.

I've also a few close-ups on Flick, if you feel like clicking:)
